Heather! How the heck did you get this beautiful DOF with f/22? I get so confused with digital camera differences. Would this still work at f/22 and a film SLR? Lovely shot, by the way.

Thanks Piper. I would think this would work the same for an SLR. I think the Micro-nikkor lense makes a difference in DOF. This lense can focus very close...1 to 1 lifesize reproduction so the lense was very close physically to the water drop. I know that I needed as much DOF as I could get with the light to make sure that the water drop was nice and crisp as well as the stem of the flower. The background flowers were placed quite a ways behind the main flower to provide the reflection so they were still blurred.

This is what you would call "Picture Perfect". It has everything... incredible colour, lighting, sharpness, perfect DOF and one extraordinary focus point. I am not a betting man but if I was here's $10 bucks on this one to win this month. BTW did you add a reflector to the right side of the image to get a little extra fill to the stem of the flower? And probably a very short tripod...LOL Good use of the reflector, the gold has adde extra warmth and colour and bought out the detail in the stem beautifully. Cheers Adam

This shot is way cool and deserves much praise!!!! I wonder how a gold reflector underneath the flower would have affected the shot? Nonetheless, this is an AMAZING photo. I wish I could afford to have that D1X of yours. Believe me, I was seriously looking at getting one. The savings in development alone justify the cost. Cheers,

Thank you so much Glenn! I did use the gold reflector to give it a little warmth and more light on the stem (see previous posts). I am also glad I sold my F100 and got the D1X. Lucky for me I had all my Nikkor lenses and speedlights so only had to spring for the body. But you are so right. The camera will pay for itself in no time with just eliminating film costs. Plus it allows me to try lower percentage type of shots that I just couldn't afford to shoot with film! Not to mention the time I don't miss at all scanning all those negatives!! That was very tedious work!
