This tulip was surrounded by pansies, which, while being attractive themselves, were too distracting for the tulip. In order to keep attention on the tulip, I duplicated the image layer in PS CS, then blurred and darkened it. I erased the blurred and darkened area around the tulip, revealing the original from the layer below. Originally photographed on Fuji Velvia film using a Hasselblad 500/CM and a Carl Zeiss 135mm Makro Bellows lens, all mounted on a sturdy Gitzo tripod with a Kirk Enterprises ball head. Metering was accomplished with a Minolta Flash Meter IV in incident mode. The film was scanned @ 4000 ppi with a Nikon LS-9000ED, yielding a 282 MB file. The file was edited in PS CS, with final output on an Epson 7600 printer with Ultrachrome inks.
