Mountain Bongo at the Los Angeles Zoo
This is a really nice looking antelope that I photographed on February 4, 2006 at the Los Angeles Zoo. Unlike the more common bongo, the mountain bongo is an endangered subspecies of antelope that lives only in a few pockets of mountain forests in Kenya. It is such a rare animal that it has not been seen in much of its natural habitat in nearly a decade. But thanks to zoos in the US, efforts are now underway to re-establish healthy groups of mountain bongos in the wild.
Canon 100-400L lens @ 170mm, f/5.0, 1/60 sec, on-board flash.
