I don't remember the exact crop of the other one, Patrick, but I know I liked it and this onr doesn't change my mind a bit. This is a nice image anyway you crop it apparently :0)

As others have already said - this is very, very nice. I'm always a sucker for backlighting, especially when it reveals the translucence of leaves and flower petals. The colors in this image are rich and attractive too. A good one all around!

Thanks everyone for your kind words! Mary-Ella, I am still pursuing my passion as time permits. There's never enough time for it though when you have a 'real' job and a family. I drove by this field of poppies right up against the highway and they were just too beautiful to pass up.

Dolores, at first I didn't know what you were talking about, then I took a look at the url of the site: http://www.printphoto.com/photo_contest.htm. I sent them an email some time ago but never got a reply. Is the company still in business? It would be nice of them to either disband the contest and take down the photos, or resume it. Not a priority I guess.

Patrick - I saw your winning picture of the fireman and decided to check out you other work. This one definitely caught my attention the most out of all of them. The color is absolutely gorgeous, especially with the lighting. My tiger lilies just opened up and I spent the morning trying to find that "just right" shot - I came up with some good ones, but nothing as stunning as this! Good work! I'm a fan now!

Thanks Kristy! I entered a print in the "Birds and Blooms" magazine photo contest last year, and it was one of the four finalists. Beginner's luck, because I haven't concentrated on shooting flowers very much.
