Hi Jim, Say, this image would make a great selection for the "Where in the World?" quiz. It will be featured in the next issue of BP's PhotoFlash newsletter, which goes out August 4th. Jim, let's see if anyone can come up with the correct answer. And, for everyone else, have fun guessing where this scene can be found!

I saw this in Jim's vacation photos... it is somewhere in England.

My guess is this is in Wales, not England. Perhaps Wrexham?

I'd say Scotland or New Zealand.

I think either Wales or Ireland, too. It's actually a reverse of the image in the book! Ok, so I tried to cheat, but the location isn't listed in the book. Do I at least get credit for pre-ordering and already having the book? LOL! :)

I have seen photos from around the world where this could be from. Funny thing is that it could also be from here in the United States.

I won't give the precise answer out yet, but just wanted to say "Kudos!" to Laura for noticing that it is reversed. I was going to mention that but you beat me to the punch. The publisher suggested a flipped orientaion because it worked better with the page layout. Extra credit points to you! Have fun guessing!

Mt. Vernon, WA is my guess. I'm always riding by there to go visit family and this looks just like the fields I'm gazing out my window at. Ahhh...memories.

I'm going to guess England's Lake District. I'm enjoying Jim's new book so much and can hardly put it down! I too noticed the picture right away as being one in the book. The Lake District seems to have been a location where he took a lot of photos, so that will be my guess.

Wow, you are so close, Ellen. This was shot the day before we headed to the Lake District. I'll give you a hint: a stone's throw to the left, there is a certain wall that runs parallel to this charming country road. That's right... it's near Hadrian's Wall. Specifically this is just outside a town called Haltwhistle, a great place to stay for exploring this ancient Roman wall. One afternoon, my wife, father-in-law, and I jumped into our car and bounced along these country roads, chasing the little pockets of light that would break through the clouds. When we came to this lovely scene, I parked the car in a farmer's gate, jumped out, and started running for a nearby crest of a hill. I knew I had only a few minutes before the pocket of light would move on to another location. As I pulled out my camera and set in on my tripod, it started raining. And not just lighting... really pouring. I got drenched but it was worth it. Who says you need blue skies and sunny days to take pictures? Thanks for playing! This has been a really fun Where in the World. If you want to see the flipped version of this image, as well as a bunch of other fun photos from England's Lake District, North Coast, Yorkshire Dales, and the Cotswolds, check out my new book The BetterPhoto Guide to Digital Photography. We're running a free shipping special this month, and if you act quick, you can get a special autographed, limited (1 of 500) first edition. Thank you all for your very kind comments on the photo. Enjoy!

After studing the above photo in your book, I went searching through and found the shot taken on page 182 that also had a stone wall that looked similar to the one in the rainbow photo. I guessed that it had to be in the same area. That's how I came up with my answer! Thanks for a fun Where in the World!!!

Jim, I just found this shot and am deeply impressed. I have just brought your lastest book and am finding it very intersting. The way you describe, exposure, shutter speed, apaerture, ISO etc, has helped me out a great deal. I can't wait to get further into the book. When I have a few days off I am certianly going to try out the assingements that you have put in the book. I have only been into photgraphy in a serious way for the past 12 months and have recently upgraded from a Canon G3 which I loved but wanted something a bit bigger so brought a Nikon D70 and I have taken your advise and take my Camera everywhere. Thankyou for a wonderful website as I have learnt so much from seeing how other people take photo's and have seen my photography improve since joining Betterphoto. Also thankyou for a very imformative book it a great read and also goes with me wherever I go.
