Luna Moth
Luna Moth
I'm told this is quite a rare sight as they fly only at night and live about a week. Taken at my sister's summer cabin in Quebec around 7:00 am. This beauty is about 5 inches tall from antennae to tail and about 4.5 inches wide. I had to gently touch its head to make it open its wings. The pinkish line on top of his wings was soft as velvet and the wings as thin as silk paper. The caterpillar that produces these beauties can reach 3 inches long and about the width of a dime.

Liandra, This is a beauty. Do you know what the caterpillar looks like?
You have capture this so well, it is nice and sharp and the color it perfect. I love where it choose to sleep. Great background for you. Diane Thomas

Thanks for you comments Diane and Jill . I have never seen the caterpillars but even birds don't eat them as they are huge. I got this info from a retired professor who owns a cabin nearby. He was quite excited by my photos and I was quite excited by the history of it all. Yes, it was the perfect model and I can't believe it let touch its wings.
