John, this one really moves me. Because I am no expert at photography, I am not qualified to speak on the technical aspects of the photo. But...I HAVE been a butterfly, standing in that instant before flight on solid, clearly defined ground, facing the blurry unknown. Haven't we all? At first glance I saw this as a photo of a butterfly in the second before flight. Then I realized that it could just as well be a photo of a butterfly that never leaves the ground. The decision is the butterfly's. Your photo so clearly captures the moment, the choice. Your title fuels that moment with all of the potential energy (courage? faith? determination?) that lie in that second before flight. Thank you so much for the inspiration.
Lois

A very fresh angle for a butterfly shot! I love the anticipation and the flight angle of the wings...more the impression of a glider than a 'flapper' :-) Very nice photo, John!

Congratulations John!! I like how Lois summed it, it does give the expression of choice to fly or stay grounded. It would make a GREAT encouragement poster. Judy
