It was late afternoon light. I didn't do much to the flower. Just basic enhancing. I just added a black background fill in with Photoshop to make the flower jump out.

I agree the isolation of the subject is good. One can also use black velvet as a backround as that absors light as opposed to reflecting it back. karen e michaels
