Live Oak Gall
This round ball is a growth called a "Gall" which is common to Oak trees and are most often found on the underside of the leaves. Galls are spherical growths about the size of a pea and are the results of a small wasp laying her eggs on the leaf's tissues causing the abnormal growth.

I'm so impressed with your composition, Don. Three simple subjects - the diagonally placed oak leaf and gall juxtaposed wonderfully against the diagonals of (what appears to be) sago palm fronds is just superb - add the beautiful lighter green of the b/g against the darker leaves of the palm fronds, with the perfect light, details and textures of the leaf and gall - and how you created such an artistic work of art is completely beyond me - but you did! You always amaze me!
