Probably not a Purple Swamphen. Not garish enough in coloration. My guess is it is a Pukeko, a member of the rail/gallinule family. Excellent behavior shot of this fellow.

LOL - I love all that guessing, in American terms - John, he sure does look like a Purple Swamphen to me (Aussie style!!). He is still gorgeous!! He lives up in the north here, lots of them around.
