Who knew that according to a Greek legend, a mortal named Crocos fell in love with the nymph Smilax. Smilax rebuffed his overtures and Crocos became a lovely purple flower? All I know is that each year when I notice this tiny but hearty survivor in my garden my heart leaps for joy because I know that new life and a renew joy in my spirit is bursting forth.
