Very nice variation on the orb image, Jeff. The figure gives the shot much more meaning and enhances it greatly.

Very cool Jeff, I like how the colors of the orb and the sky compliment each other..I think I would actually prefer if the dude was solid instead of translucent..how long did he actually stand in the frame while the image was being exposed?

Ah, Tony, that is a great observation on the guy, and I couldn't agree more. So, here's a little more detail on this image. This was shot when I was in Phoenix last week for PPA's Imaging convention. A few of my guys wanted to do some light painting (like I'm ever going to turn that one down) and a couple of Canon guys got wind and wanted to join us. So, we headed to this park, which is a botanical preserve in the middle of the city. There was a ton of ambient light from the city and the moon. We had been messing around with orbs for a bit when my rep Peter decided he wanted to be in the image. So, we played around with this a bit. This is a single exposure, but was shot in two parts. I spun the orb first, then Peter jumped into the frame an I lit him with a pop from my flash. We did it this way because of the time it takes to spin the orb. I've gotten to where I do a full revolution in right about 30 seconds. This was two revolutions, so about a minute. It would be tough for Peter to stand perfectly still for that long. The trick was balancing the two light sources. Peter was only in the images for a few seconds. The reason he is so transparent is that we left the shutters open for several minutes in the attempt to get some star trails. The ambient light washed him out. Had we adjusted settings for a much shorter exposure, he would have remained more solid. However, we had a couple of guys with us that had never light painted before and they were getting antsy to spin some steel wool, so we moved on. I'll be back in Vegas in a month for WPPI and a few of us are planning on going in a day early and will be spending the night out in Valley of Fire. We'll definitely be working on this.
