Number 24 had a great run on this play, during the first game I shot Thanksgiving morning.
----
But only seconds later, he collided head on with another player and 24 lay motionless on the frozen ground for what seemed centuries. We watched as he was covered in blankets as the ambulance siren could be heard in the distance. All the coaches and teammates gathered around the boy as he was finally placed on a stretcher and wheeled to the ambulance.
----
We stood there in the cold, almost in tears as we saw the boy's head and neck being immobilized. So I was greatly relieved that I was able to shoot the photo that I'll put in the discussion area showing Damion raising an arm to give us a "thumbs up."
---
He was treated later for a concussion. Bad enough, to be sure, but he was a lucky man on Thanksgiving Day--all things considered.

Just another example of why I'm grateful our grandson is working hard to earn a music scholarship and isn't into football. I'm a huge football fan, mind you, but when they're just kids, it scares me silly. Wonderful capture, Michelle!

I love that you can see his eye and expression so well through his helmet, Michelle. Wonderful sports actions work, Michelle.

Always nerve wracking when a player goes down but so good that they are very careful now.

Two more excellent sports action shots!!

I don't much look at pro sports, but I love the amateur competitions, especially college football. (Came from Nebraska, which has no pro football, only college--well, if college sports can actually be called amateur anymore.) I also love your captures of these kids who play so hard and care so much. The injuries though. It's terrible to think that such pleasure they have in their abilities can lead to a lifetime of hurt.
