Playing with color cast!

Got to go to a new restaurant On the Square in Denton. It has three levels. I was able to get a "bird's eye view" from the third level to get this shot.

Nikon D7000, 18-200 mm lens, LR5, and Nik Color Efx Pro.

I deliberately underexposed this shot for the after below.

It came out very nice. I certainly can see the underexposure in the original but the color cast shot looks good. What led you to the need for the underexposure? I would not have thought of that.

Michael, my instructor for a class I take (not BP) told me about this. He said under exposing makes the finished product look much mor balanced. I took the photo in the afternoon and my goal was to make it look like a night shot. The blue cast makes it look a bit spooky!

Interesting thread but I'm a bit confused. I understand the under exposure on the "night" shot. But on the first post, it doesn't seem to work for me. Just looks under exposed and needs post processing. Am I missing something?

No. Dale, you're not missing something. I underexposed on purpose. The post processing is the second shot.

I wanted a night to take an afternoon shot and make it a night shot. I essentially did some of the post processing in camera. Having it underexposed makes it a bit easier. I was taught this technique by my instructor in the class I'm taking. I tried the same technique on a correctly exposed shot and it doesn't look as good and it's harder to do.

Sorry I confused you!
