Thank you, Emile. I followed your lead and converted it to B&W and adjusted it to bring out more of the details. What a fascinating experience!

That is absolutely stunning. Too bad it is next to mine:) ha ha.

Curious-what and why did you stack? Was this exposure bracketed so you could get the fine details in all those nooks and crannies?

This could go into Sky and Telescope!!!

Just realized that was a telescope! I'm going to have to give that a try, once is figure out what I need to do that!

I love the detail and your B&W conversion, Susan!

I'm always torn on shots like this, the detail is really cool, but to me, there needs to be some sort of context to go with the moon.

Thanks so much, everyone, for your kind words and enthusiasm.

Elaine - the stacking was just an experiment because I'm working on an MT for Focus Stacking. This image is not focus stacking, though. My camera was mounted on the telescope. It's not bracketed either (I didn't think of that). When I saw that the three images aligned without any ghosting, I proceeded with the conversion to B&W and tweaked the contrast. For lack of time, I didn't try the same PP work with a single image and the stacking may not have done anything.

Jeff, I agree with you about having some context. The beauty of this image for me is the experience of being in the moment, and it's the first time I was able to get an image with so many details. With the telescope acting as the lens, the Moon filled the screen -- I was lucky to get a little canvas on the top and bottom (I had to add some to this composition), so context isn't really possible. I prefer Moon shots through the Pines or with moving clouds or the colors of the night sky. Still, Super Moons are hard to pass up even though there are more interesting phases.

Yup, like I said, I'm torn. I love the details in shots like this, that's for sure. And, you are right, it's pretty cool to watch the moon through the lens. If it weren't so dang cloudy tonight, I'd be out again. . .

It's wonderful, Susan. I cannot even see the moon these days. With all the smoke in the sky we aren't seeing much of anything, Colorado appears to be taking massive hits with all the forest fires. Several people we know lost their homes in Black Forest. Dale got out just on time.

That is terrible. I can't believe this is happening to you again. Are you out of the woods yet? Pun not intended.

We are fine but at one point we were within a miler so of the pre-evac area so Martin didn't go teach his class in Minneapolis in case we had to pick up and go. Fortunately we didn't get evacuated but I think more than a few of us are somewhat depressed by news of friends losing their homes, and just about the time one fire is declared contained another fire breaks out somewhere else.i haven't smelled clean air for a couple of weeks now. Thanks for asking, Elaine.

Debbie, it's hard to imagine the prolonged stress from the threat of a wildfire with such great losses already suffered by so many. I pray you and your family will remain safe and that this will end soon.

Here are some images of what Debbie is enduring:

Great image, Susan. I have considered finding a way to mount a camera body on a telescope or birding scope a number of times, but never committed enough to the effort to get it done.
