Shot taken at Civil War reenactment in very harsh sun. Convert to black and white using gradient mapping, add sepia filter, adjust levels, overlay texture and then reduce dynamic range via another levels adjustment. Also applied a bit of motion blur.

Agree on Death Valley. An old friend and I spent four day there about two years ago.
