A Little Dinner...A Little Dancing?

"A Little Dinner...A Little Dancing?"
When wooing a prospective mate, it's typical for the male Least Tern to come bearing gifts. The male proudly displays the tidbit of food, but will not immediately offer to share. He proceeds to embark upon a ritual "dance", with rapid, side-to-side head motions, as though teasing its mate into submission. More likely though, he is just showing off his prowess as an effective hunter and provider. This behavior is not limited to Least Terns, in that other tern species have been observed offering their girlfriends dinner and a show.Nikkor 600 mm, TC-301 Teleconverter Eastern Neck NWR, Delaware
