Female Priests of Okinawa
This photo was taken from an angle where no model release would be required. The female priests, known as Noro, in Okinawa, Japan, are in a procession, moving to a sacred site at UNESCO Shuri Castle. The ritual is a re-enactment of a ceremony conducted during the days Okinawa was an independent kingdom called Ryukyu. Water drawn from wells, located miles apart, is blessed and mixed, to present the royalty of the castle as a tribute for the New Year. The activity was photographed DEC 30, 2012 at 3:31PM f/11 1/25 ISO 100, using a Pentax KD10 and 18-250 Pentax lens at 120mm. Available light under cloudy skies with rain. Contest Category: Travel
