Icelandic Horse
The Icelandic horse has become a unique and protected breed, being isolated from all other breeds for 1,000+ years. No other horses may be
brought into Iceland, and any Icelandic horse removed from Iceland cannot return. They are shorter and squatter than most other breeds,
and have 2 gaits recognized as unique from the gaits of other horse breeds. Population-wise, 1 horse exists per every 3 people in Iceland.
We were fascinated by their manes as well, which could be very long and flowing, and often a contrasting color to their coat.
