Dead Leaf Mimic
The Red-washed Prominent (Oligocentria semirufescens), is one of several species of caterpillar to have evolved with the ultimate camouflage. When at rest, its unique body structure allows the larva to disappear within its surroundings. From a distance, this charismatic little caterpillar resembles the curled edge of a dying leaf.Micro-Nikkor 105 mm, PB-4 Bellows, Vivitar 285 Flash Frederick County, Maryland
