This is a great frame. If only you had the light from your other photo. Combine the two and you'd have the perfect shot! Instead of putting all the exposure details in the description box, all we really need to know right now is whether you took it under Sunny, Shade, or Cloudy conditions, and the time of day. My guess is that this was taken midday in Sun. The strong, high sun makes unattractive shadows on your model. He's squinting in the bright sun so that we can't see his eyes, let alone any catchlights. Compare this with the diffuse light from the umbrella shot and you'll remember why shade makes the best portraits when you have strong sun.
