The Great Quakertown Swamp


	The Great Quakertown Swamp ---- This week I FINALLY visited the Great Swamp in Upper Bucks County, Pennsylvania. I was two months too late to see the nesting activity at the rookery, which is the largest GBH rookery in Eastern Pennsylvania. ----- But at this pond near the rookery (I'm STILL searching myself constantly for ticks since the trail was very overgrown) I encountered two herons. One was on a heavily guano-covered low branch and the other perched on a high, thin, dead branch. He eventually took off and flew above me for a while. ---- Michelle Alton
	Spot For Smelling Roses ---- Note the abundance of heron guano on the limb. But also note the beautiful swamp roses behind the bird. Michelle Alton
	And High Above... ----- This is the heron that alit on the high branch, and then took off. The flying bird is the same one that was perched. I super-imposed his in-flight image. The other bird remained perched for the entire time of my visit. Michelle Alton

Nice catch of the herron in flight. If I leave my dock and paddle my kayak about a mile (or so) I can get into a very narrow passage where the area is full of wildlife. It reminds me of the area in your image.... I don't have the nerve to put the camera in the kayak. :)

What fun, Michelle and what a beautiful area! My kind of photography, I just love shooting waterfowl in the wild. Wish I was there! All three are excellent, terrific in-flight capture of the one. They don't stay long when once they see you except if they are fishing - then they hardly move at all!
