The Northern Water Snake (Nerodia sipedon) is non-venomous, though their powerful jaws are capable of inflicting a painful and infectious bite. Their feisty demeanor ranks these aquatic hunters among the most aggressive species of snakes.

Wonderful catch Love the in your face POV.

I know in Penn in lakes they like laying on submerged rocks in very shallow water to WARM UP. They always seem totally un fazed by anyones presence .

  Thanks Jack for your comments.

This handsome guy had recently shed and was spotted basking near a pond at one of my favorite haunts.
At first, it was complacent and seemed willing to be photographed.
It's demeanor quickly changed, and it flattened its head and repeatedly lashed out at me, nearly grabbing me by the nose!
I was thankful to have positioned myself just out of range.
