Blue and Gray

BetterPhoto.com Photo Contest Finalist   Blue and Gray
Blue and Gray
The primary focal point is the vertical line where the horizontal pieces of the blue barn’s siding meet at the barn’s corners. In order to maintain the pleasing symmetry, that line is located dead center rather than on a “third” line. Shot on a tripod, but on a very windy (40 mph) day… I put downward force on the tripod to limit camera movement.

Congratulations, Terry! I shot a red barn this way---I love the receding lines, and age/decay; your blue is an unexpected treat!

Congrats on this unusual image. Don't think I've ever seen a blue barn. Good luck in the next round.

Thanks, all - blue barns ARE unusual and it's the only one I can remember seeing. I've got my eyes on a yellow one that's close to home - just need to stop and get permission to shoot it.

Congratulations on this finalist image Terry - enjoyed your Barns very much !! - interesting do you ask permission to photo the Barn or to go on the property ?

Barbara - thanks for looking. Some I've taken on a county barn tour last fall. Other's I've observed by the roadside and stopped then (or later) to shoot it.

I haven't done any that are next to a lived-in house - but have my eye on some. For those, I'll get permission first.

Once I stopped at an abandoned farmhouse, turned around in the driveway and then returned to the barn to shoot it. As I was leaving the car a man in a pickup truck drove up and asked me what I was up to. Apparently I'd tripped an alarm and he got a phone call. Too many n'er do wells poking around where they shouldn't. He warned me that "you'd better be careful, you're likely to get shot". That's slowed me down...

It's a little scary when I think about it.
