Harvesting Green Coconuts

BetterPhoto.com Photo Contest Finalist   Harvesting Green Coconuts
Harvesting Green Coconuts
Coconuts have several different uses depending on their stage of development. The large, still-green coconuts being harvested here are good for drinking. There is a large quantity of clear liquid in the nuts and this is a refreshing drink on a hot day. Dominicans believe it is good for the kidneys.

During WWII the marines fighting on the Pacific islands used coconut water when blood plasma was not available. The water in green coconuts is almost the same composition as human body fluid.

You can feel it in the air, the anticipation of waiting for the awards to arrive. The talent that is on display for all to see and share is amazing. Congratulations to all the January, 2012 winners. Merna
