The Frost Tower in Downtown Austin

The Frost Tower in Downtown Austin
Austin is the capitol and South Austin is the liberal bastion of the predominantly conservative State of Texas.

The third tallest skyscraper in downtown Austin is the Frost Bank Tower. Voted the best new building by Austin Chronicle readers in 2004, the skyscraper was said to help keep Austin "characteristically weird" in a 2005 article entitled, the Best of Austin by the Houston Chronicle referring to the building's "owl face looking down over the city."

What a terrific image - technically and subject-wise.

When I moved to San Antonio in 1966 and in 1968, my Great-Aunt used Frost. The downtown bank was a most beautiful old-fashioned building (gorgeous lobby - not unlike the lobbies of elegant hotels.)

Austin was a large part of my Texas experiences - UT's Tower was the subject of my first oil painting (and also the site of the sniper - I had been there sketching not 10 days earlier.) The Capitol Bldg was a favorite spot to visit, and was also the site where some guy planted Marijuana all around its perimeter (which grew to 6-7' high before anyone identified it! lolll)

This image brought back a lot of memories - but gosh, Austin sure has changed. Thank you.
