Peyto Lake

This Is:
Peyto Lake
BANFF NATIONAL PARK.
ALBERTA, CANADA.

Taken From High Upon A Mountian
(That nearly killed me getting to the look out point!)...

Our Very Own Kiki and Leif Kjear and
Our Very Own Ron and Shirley and Oscar McEwan
HAVE ALL BEEN HERE TO SEE THIS BREATH TAKING PLACE, TOO!

And Now I Share My Version of It.

  Peyto Glacier
Peyto Glacier

First Let Me Say That The Blue In The Lakes Here
IS CAUSE BY "FLOUR" from minerals that live in the water. :D

Okay now to this glacier...while on the Mtn looking outwards we learned that 70% of Peyto Glacier,
(At the South End of Peyto Lake That Actually Feeds The Lake),
has now receeded from the state it was once in, and had maintained, for years.

That is not ice you see near the lake. It is mainly dried up silt and dirt.
Water trickles down from the glacier and into Peyto Lake.
The glacier is only at the top of the Mtn and if you look closely you will see a waterfall at the base of the glacier area.

IT'S STILL BEAUTIFUL HERE AND AM GLAD TO SEE IT ALL
WHILE IT STILL REMAINS.

Hi Sweet SSKiki! I am so happy that you are the first one here. And now Ron should be along any time now I hope! Lol...How I wish we could all stand here together in person. Each BPer and Visitor that comes along to enjoy viewing these images.

OKAY. LET'S PRETEND. Can you feel the sun and the breeze? It's warm and the air is more fresh than almost anywhere else on the earth.

And thank you so much for all you said!

Night night!

Thanks for explaining what causes the extraordinary blue color of the lake, Pom. Both views are spectacular!!
I hope you drew (at LEAST)four or five dozen breaths of the mountain air for those of us surrounded by smog, or duststorms, or whatever else "civilization" has done to the land and atmosphere.

Beautiful. Like Glacial runoff streams in Alaska that are silt heavy I'm guessing there are NO FISH in the lake.
Trust us the HIKE WAS WORTH THE RESULTING CAPTURE.

The last time we were there, I was still shooting using film. Gotta go back and explore with digital. Fabulous work here Laura, thanks for sharing!

I had a feeling this one would catch your eye, Chris! The lake is really this color, too! Can you believe it? It's caused from "mineral dust" in the glacier water from the soil!

This is a very famous spot and a very tough (paved) hike straight up the Mtn top but worth it.

So glad you saw this one! YES! PEYTO LAKE is a MUST! And with your expert shooting you can come here and do it even more justice than I did. Please go to Kirsten Kjaer's gallery and see the one she shot when she came to visit from Denmark. It's the most beautiful image of Petyo I have ever seen! Her gallery link is on this thread.
