Animals - June 2011

After watching this big guy eat a small carrot stick for about 15 mins. and I must say, eating it very delicately... he smiles contently.

Nice job capturing the expression, Christine.

member since: 6/28/2008 Ha... fun Chris! Thanks so much for taking some time to look at these shots. I'm not that experienced with Zoo photography and I have to say, these polar bear shots to me, are pretty good for behind glass. I was happy to see them work!

member since: 10/28/2005 Christine, you did great. It is a challenge to get good zoo shots since there are so many artificial obstacles to getting good shots. Often the animals are static and thus there is little interest in the picture. At best, some pictures might work in an animial identification book or site. Just the details to identify the animial. As photographers, especially if we have more of an artistic bent, we want more. We want the expressions, the emotion and even the immigination and humor possible with good animal shots.

The obstacles such as having to shoot through glass, screens and deal with other distractions within the scene make it harder.

I think you composed this one as well as the others in the series to show life in the animal and the setting is not glarringly "ZOO".

Wonderful image of this gentle giant! They are magnificent creatures that we may one day, sadly, see only in zoos. Nice work, Christine! I really liked all three of these captures!

Christine, your entire photo series of Mr. Lovable enjoying his carrot, scratching his back, etc., is delightful! You could be this sweet bear's agent for the next Coca-Cola ad contract!

Hi Mary, what a wonderful thing to say, thank you very much! Now, do you have any suggestions on how to grab Coca-Cola's attention? I would love to get Mr. Lovable in commericals!!
Thank you again,
Smiling CHrisTine
