 Claret Cup Cactus
Echinocereus triglochidiatus Llano Uplift Llano County, Texas Blooms: Mar - May The Central Texas winter has been reasonably comfortable so far. We haven't had any snow, the temperatures have been mildish and I'm noticin' that the days are already gettin' longer. So far I haven't sunk into cabin fever and/or winter melancholy. But as I watch the birds out back I have started to notice a risin' note of hysteria in my voice as I merrily chirp that I am okay and that winter is half over. My words ring hollow and false. I am sure there is a giant thought bubble loomin' over my head with nothin' in it but a black cloud. I yearn to hide from the world until spring, shufflin' in my bathrobe with Kleenex boxes on my feet. I have never seen a year where spring didn't come ... eventually. I think I just need a little color in my life besides browns and grays!

Cabin fever here, LOL. I keep going to the market to buy flowers. Wonderful details and beautiful splash of color, Jim.

I hear ya, pardner...I almost wish it WOULD snow to relive the monotony of the browns and grays.....Wait a minute, Kleenex boxes on your feet???!! LOL! But a robin was splashing in my birdbath this AM and the blue bonnets coming up in my yard look right perky...take heart, there's hope! In the meantime, I'll enjoy your blast of beautiful claret cups and remember brighter days...hang in there!

You haven't lived until you've had an eight-foot tall guy with a ring in his nose and tattoos everywhere shoveling two feet of snow off your walkways. I, on the other hand, have LIVED. His name is "OX" and he is a sweetie. No color HERE...everything blanketed in snow and ice. Your flowers are so pretty. I want to do Spring among the blue bonnets!
