I could not hear the conversation nor did I want to as I watched this obviously emotional man as he paced up and down, clasping his forehead, flinging his arm and looking so grim and angry. I hope it all worked out for him. It was Christmas in thirteen days time.

Shot at the Crèma Espresso Bar in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia.

Canon EOS 40D & Canon USM 100-300mm Lens: RAW, f/5.6 @ 1/500sec, 220mm, ISO 100, -2 EV, Hand held.
Lightroom 2.2 & Photoshop CS3.

Enjoy!

THE MAKING OF 'Despair':

Another Sunday session at the Crèma with my best Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club friend where we enjoy a mugga coffee, a light lunch and some brilliant conversations during which we solve all the world's problems and even talk about photography.
There was a good crowd there this day and during proceedings I became aware of this man carrying out his animated telephone conversation at the edge of the footpath opposite my table.
My camera is always within reach and preset for candid shots on these days so I got the chap in my sights and rattled off a series of shots hoping to gat one I could use. This one was the prize shot as I feel it conveys what was happening extremely well.
The dappled light was a bit of a problem as flash was out of the question but Lightroom's Fill Light function helped with that.

Enjoy!

  Hi Dennis;
My, my, my this fellow certainly appears distraught. You have captured raw emotions in this image; Quite tangible.
Your use of B/W is outstanding, as always. I like your focus and how the background has blurred away. The reflection is his glasses is pretty awesome, too.

  Merry Be *CARLA*!

Always a seat for you at my table at the Crèma. Let's lay back, slurp some coffee, stay cool and shoot a few people. 8-)
My mega thanks for your most uplifitng and inspiring feedback on this candid caper.
The reflection is part of the car park at the side of the road. In it there is a car and three vacant spaces, one with the invalid sign. Considering the state of the subject I leave you to draw your own conclusions and find a message there. 8-)

  G'day *CHRIS*!

So good of you to drop by the Crèma and to leave your very amusing and inspiring comments for this distraught candid.

With people's fertile imaginations and a good senses of humour I am sure I will get to see more fun captions to suit this one.
