Feeling Blue

BetterPhoto.com Photo Contest Finalist   Feeling Blue
Feeling Blue
The beautiful blue petals of this Australian wildflower, the Thelionema caespitosum (Tufted Blue Lily) makes a lovely contrast to its golden yellow tufted stamens.

This close-up wildflower study was made along the Ocean Drive Fire Trail in the Queen's Lake Nature Reserve at North Haven, NSW, Australia on a warm spring morning.

Canon EOS D60 & Canon 28-135 USM IS Lens: RAW, Manual settings of f/5.6 @ 1/500sec, 120mm, ISO 100, Hand held.
Lightroom 2.2 & Photoshop CS3.

Enjoy

THE MAKING OF 'Feeling Blue':

My best Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club mate and I were on a planned day trip scouting our favourite locations for this year's display of spring time wildflowers and we were not disappointed as we found many lovely specimens of a variety of species, none more beautiful as the Tufted Blue Lilies.
The sky was almost completely covered with thin high altitude cloud and the light was diffused enough and the texture of the petals to allow me to use natural light. Even so the light intensity increased as I was preparing to make this shot so a higher shutter speed was required. This also overcame the slight movement of the stem caused by the breeze.
This flower was well isolated and the lens created the lovely creamy smooth bokeh.

Enjoy!

Hi Dennis: This is a rich and delicate flower and it is actually wild, how fortunate you are to have this beauty returning each year all on its own. You have captured it and the entire splendor for us to see. Thank you. Merna

Every month, with our camera in hand, we go out and find what we hope will be the “winning photo.”
Those of us that don’t get recognized, just continue to search for that special image, until one day the Congratulations come pouring in from some of the best artist and friends anyone could image.
So to the Better Photo winners for the month of September, I congratulate you on a job so well done.
My very best to all of you, Merna Nobile
