Killing Potato Vines

"Killing Potato Vines"
"Killing Potato Vines"
In this photo you can see which potatoes have been “killed”.
Timely vine killing is essential in the production of table, chipping and seed potatoes.
Here are some of the reason for the vine killing.
Termination of growth to control tuber size.
Termination of growth to set skin, which reduces skinning and bruising during harvest and shrinkage in storage. One requirement for table production.
Removal of vine growth that interferes with harvest.
Timing is esstential. The more immature the crop at the time of vine killing, the greater the loss of yield.

I am learning all about potatoes here thanks for the info. And look at that sky would you. It is beautiful. Looks like it could even be an Indian summer day.

Don't you just love it when the sky is full of clouds like that! Beautiful! And I had no idea the vine-killing was part of the process. Now I like my baking potatoes a medium size...
