Sunset Beyond the Headlands
This photo was taken from the commercial dock in Port Orford, Oregon. The silhouetted rocks are part of the Port Orford Heads State Park, which has several trails with spectacular, breathtaking views to the South and southeast, West, and North. Huge Pacific waves crash against the rocky cliffs and offshore rocks, which are home to many critters including seals and sea-birds. Whale spouts can often be seen from the trails and from several strategically located benches. The beacon from the lighthouse at Cape Blanco State Park is visible on a clear day, as are the sandy beaches of Tseriadum State Park (located adjacent to The Port Orford Heads State Park) and Paradise Point State Park (located several miles north of Tseriadum). Part of Garrison Lake can also be seen from the vistas at The Port Orford Heads, as can the huge sea stacks of the Orford Reef, which are 5 miles out to sea. The State Parks of Port Orford offer an unforgettable experience for the locals and visitors.
