I submitted this last year and it didn't fare well but I thought I'd give it another try.

This photo is an example of "conceptual photography", in which an idea or concept is first envisioned in the mind's eye.
The logistics and technical mechanics are then planned and implemented in an attempt to realize the artist's vision.

Technically, this was a relatively easy photo to create. It was a simple matter of stopping down the aperture on my macro lens and metering for the brighter background, then using a hand-held strobe to illuminate the subject. Logistically though, the greatest challenge was finding a suitable location and "model" (...and then trying to coerse an energetic and confused mantis into sitting still long enough to get the shot).
