Keith, this may be one of the best of the bird shots you have done. Or I'd say one I like among the best. The pose, detail, composition and nice DOF makes it a winner. Even if it is just an old grakle and not a proud eagle, LOL Maybe he fancies himself an eagle. :-)

Dan, as you know by now I will shoot anything that gets in front of my lens. Up until this year I have never even seen a grackle; when the sun lands just right they are one of the most colorful birds I have shot to date. The eagles have tapered off so I have spent my time shooting a load of birds at my feeders, and I have enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks for the comment Dan! Keith

Keith, grackles are, as you've no doubt noticed, flocking birds. A couple of times during the year they pass through here and congregate by the thousands, literally turning trees black with their numbers. Loud and racaus and of course making a mess under them on the ground. They tend to have their favorite hangout areas and in some places (in downtown Ft. Worth for example) city workers have to take measures to keep them driven away. What a homeowner will not want is for them to decide that their back yard is comfy for them. They are through here maybe twice a year for a short time and the dB sound level of the neighborhood rises and they make it uncomfortable for the normal birds in the yard and around the feeder. When they find an area they like, the tend to come back to it and bring all of their kin. :-) That aside, they can make good photo subjects.
