The second close-up today, I hope you don't mind. I came across this lad some minutes ago when looking through my stock - thought it would be worth sharing!

I've never seen one that looked that pretty. Really nice colors in this birdie. I like the leaf at the bottom too--really completes the coposition. As far as I'm concerned you can post as many pictures as you want each day. I love to see your work.

Thanks to everybody for your encouraging comments! I really appreciate them. Stephanie: I rarely sell any of my work (I must say I am not very enthusiastic to do so...). Donna: This is an indoor shot with artificial light from the top and a little from underneath, no flash - I hate that. The camera used was a Nikon Coolpix 5700 in macro. I sort of fell over this wonderful fungus when I was walking back to my car after having tried to photograph wild boar without success. It was so dark, that I had to do it inside. To take "objects" - what a bad word for nature - home I always have some plastic boxes with wet kitchen towels ready for that purpose in my backpack - better not help me carry it!! ;-) I'll post another one tomorrow - YOUR fault!

How do you like that camera birdie? Is it everything that they claim it is? .I have been thinking about buying the Nikon 5700 as my first digital.

Hi Donna! For my taste the Nikon is a great camera. As far as I have tested it (done about 1200 images with it so far), it is capable of mastering all the "normal" photographic situations. It is 1A in macro - have a look at my new post ("Starfighter")which was done with the Coolpix at 3cm distance in wide angle setting. It does have the usual digital disadvantages - noise at speeds below 1/30 or ASA 200, 400, 800. The noise reduction works, but there still IS noise, of course. The shutter lag is acceptable, the electronic viewfinder - well, I never use it, I always work with the monitor, which can be moveed in every direction possible. Get yourself a 256MB card at least + the battery-grip, which makes it very handy and has an extra release and an extra zoom button, which can be locked (release). The fungus was about10 cm in height! Thank you for your interest! birdie

Thanks for the INFO! I immensely appreciate it. It has taken me months to finally come up with the decision to get that camera..I didn't realize that digitals had noise like film grain though.(OH NO) ; How does it do if it is set at 50 asa and the shutter is under 1/30? How much noise does it have. Doesn't the low ASA reduce noise? Do you have any examples. .. What was this picure shot at? I don't see noise and it had to have been a show shutter speed> What was the ASA? Do you remember? Thanks for all of the excellent info.. I'll take you advice regarding the 256 MBG card and grip. THANKS AGAIN BIRDIE!

Sorry for the delay, Donna. Was jogging in the rain. All wet and sweaty now - the shower will be nice!!! You have an automatic setting with the Coolpix, then 100 ASA, 200, 400, 800. There isn't any noise at 100 as long as you don't come below 1/30. You can first detect it in the darker areas of the photos. The above pic has noise, but not at 72 dpi and that size. It was shot at 100 ASA, probably 1/15. If you decide to buy a digital you must have a clear concept, what you want to do with it. The next thought should be to maybe invest a little more money and go for a digital SLR like the Canon D60 if you work with the Canon system which I do. They are all capable of certain things, the more expensive they get the more their handling is like that of a good "normal" SLR. Hope that helps! birdie
