American Saddlebred
The breed originated in the 1700s in America and played an important role in the Civil war as private mounts of soldiers (including Grant). After the Civil war the breed was preserved both as a mount and as a carriage horse. Over time due to its unusual gaits became the darling of the show arena. I have composited this show horse onto an evening farm shot to show where the horse came from and how far from its origins it has really strayed.
