Zinnia Still Life


	Zinnia Still Life Not a very creative title but the best I can do this morning. I set this up for the BetterPhoto FFFP Club's August challenge (still life this month) thinking I would like the crisp white table against the bright green wall but the contrast line where table met wall was too bold and badly placed in the composition so I decided to soften the definition and ended up with this. The crackle on the pot is natural to the glaze; the background crackle is actually a close-up of the side of the pot applied digitally as a layer. And after all this work, I ended up not using it as one of my submissions to the contest :) Category: Digital Darkroom Nikki McDonald

Gorgeous still life, Nikki! I was going to ask if this was a raku pot (that's the technique that makes the crackle glaze) and then I read your description. Great idea to use it as an additional texture layer.

Love this capture Nikki... really like the greens and comp here. Was hard to decide in FFFP amongst your entries as I really liked them all and if you had put this one in it would have been even harder lol. One of these days will have to ask you how to do a background like this or like in one done by Colleen Farrell. Well worth the work... congrats on the EP. Sherran
