The Anchor Run Farm features a Community Vegetable Garden, but it was closed to the Barn tour. However, the luscious herb garden was open for roaming.

I have no idea on earth what these spiny buds hold within...but they sure are pretty!

Used my new 85 mm (awesome) lens.

Excellent depth of field and selective focus on the three stalks of thorny spheres in the centermost spot and along the right foreground (they also look like thistles to me too). The bee and other insects around the sharp central grouping are elements that catch the eye, while the graduating softness of the buds that follow and the forms of the orange blooms through the background add to the visual appeal of this image. The barn just a muted shape in the distance. A well composed and captured image, Michelle!

The spiny things are Echinops ritro, my friend, or Globe Thistle. And what a beautiful representation it is. A gardening catalog would love to have this wonderful image!

Beautiful image, Michelle! It has already been said, but I love the DOF you used, making this romantic and nostalgic as opposed to potentially being cluttered had it be in focus throughout. I take it your new lens is a prime lens? It seems to provide you with wonderful clarity!

It's so much better to comment early in the day! When I'm late, most of what I want to say is already on the page. So - ditto to all of the above and Wow! A real beauty, Michelle!

I don't know what it is either Michelle but it sure does make for and interesting subject. The stalk and leaves resemble a thistle but I can't say for sure. I can see why you love your new lens. This is a very cool shot. Macros are lots of fun. Have you tried any portraits with it yet?

The bee is perfect, and so is the fact that the less obviously spectacular but nonetheless beautiful plants occupy the foreground.
