Anthony this has got gorgeous lighting and background. I think it is an excellent shot as presented and the bike does not detract at all in my view. I like the composition of the shot and am a bit afraid of what a crop would do to it especially since your son is interacting with the bike. I am not the best on people shots so lets see what some of our portrait phellos think.

Tony how you get such emotion from this little guy is amazing. You bribe him? Ü I wouldn't clone the bike out I think it fits. Mike said the lighting was good...I'm thinking it's a little dark...Mike is probably right. maybe a little brighter catch light would help. I'm fond of this image too!

I'm not your go-to- girl for portraits, but I definitely like the rich, beautiful lighting that you have here and the expression is unique so I'm not quite sure what the judges were thinking ....or not thinking.. He's a gorgeous child and the image is awesome. The only thing I can think that might have even remotely impacted their decision would have been the fact that he is so close to the edge of the frame that he almost appears to be "clipped". I know that that is something to look out for in wildlife and flowers but people shots I'm not sure about. Re-enter this one. It's a keeper.

Tony this is a wonderful study in character, tone, and composition. It has warmth, style and mood. Very well done. If you want to squeeze a little more drama from it you might try this. Use a fairly strong oval vignette feathered heavily on a separate layer so you can control it. Duplicate the original shot and use a softlight blend at about 30%. Then brighten and sharpen the eyes.

Thanks all for the positive feedback, I'm glad you guys like this one as much as I do...I think Dales suggestions will do the trick and I will try them out as soon as I get a chance, but I have so many to edit from the sessions i've done recently that I have little time to work on my own (a good thing!)

He is just beautiful! I can't fathom what the judges were thinking with this either. I think Dale's suggestions will only enhance an already terrific image, Tony. And you were worried about your business hitting a brick wall! LOL!

Tony, I really like this shot the way it is. I think the handle bars add to the mood. When you get the chance would like to see Dales suggestions like he said to squeeze a little more drama. So happy you are busy with your business, you will need an assistant soon.

OK Tony - I am the odd one out today! I WOULD crop it... I understand wanting to keep the bike, but I also think the draw with this shot is his awesome expression, so I would at least crop in closer. My suggestion would be a 5x7 crop - top right corner just to the upper right of his ear (so that the bike ribbon is kept in in the bottom right) and bottom left just to the lower left of where his hand is clutching the bike. I know this takes off the top of his head, but I think it draws you more to his eyes :) GORGEOUS pose and backdrop! Did you make it!? I want one! lol
