I used a split ND filter to keep the hotspots for blowing out. A special technique was also used to keep the filter line less noticeable. This made the shot a lot easier for post processing too. One shot is always quicker than two. I couldn't manage to finish the morning shoot with out getting one of these stuck to my ankle. Tweezers are priceless in the desert.

Great capture, Steven! Yes, tweezers are a must in the desert and may I ask where this is taken. I love these old Chollas!

Yes, I was guessing Joshua Tree but only because I recognise it since I live about 5 minutes away.

Those things hurt, don't they? I got one in my foot near Tucson a couple years ago and while I was trying to scrape it off my shoe, I got another one in my arm..I had lumps in my arm for almost a year before they finally went away or got absorbed or whatever happened to them. (No tweezers for me)
