Volcano Lip

BetterPhoto.com Editor's Pick
Volcano Lip, Craters of the Moon, Idaho
Volcano Lip, Craters of the Moon, Idaho
Location Craters of the Moon, Idaho. I thought it was very interesting that this large chunk of lava was a volcano lip that fell off and was carried for miles to this spot by the flowing lava. It would have been something to see when this was happening 3000 years ago.

Thank you ever so much, Carol! BP sure had it's problems yesterday. Took me all morning to get a picture to up-load and then last night I gave up trying to comment. It kept said "waiting on BP", for ever....

You're right, how this got where it is is very interesting. Very well composed -- the people show just how enormous it really is. Well done!

Now that is an interesting photo subject. Boy, is that huge...and picturing it just "rolling along" is almost unbelievable. Having the people in the frame really accentuates the enormous size of the "chunk." Excellent photo...well composed and very, very interesting!

You would think that something could be made from all that old lava. Excellent capture Denny, the people gives some idea just how big that lip is.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments! It was hard for me to imagine that chunk just floating along but if I remember correctly the lava is over 1500' deep in places here. They say sometime in the next 100 to 1000 years it will do it again. That kinda leaves me out so I'll just have to use my imagination..LOL..
