Taken 1-16-09 at 4:07 p.m. from inside my house.
Camera: hand held, no flash, Canon 55-250 IS lens (set at 250 mm), shutter priority (Tv), 1/250, f/5.6, ISO set on auto (camera chose 400), matrix
Edited the image with Picasa 3: added fill light, used the soft focus tool 3 times to fade out the distracting limbs in the background, sharpened, cropped to 4x6. Wish I knew how to get an image that looks like this without having to do so much editing. Any suggestions from BP members will be much appreciated, since I'm so new to shooting with an SLR.

Hazel H. Cromer 		  Great capture Johnnie. I believe the great way to get sooc DoF is to have lots of ground distance between you and subject and between subject and background. Then, the more you zoom in, the better the DoF like you are wanting. Hope this helps.

Johnnie Ann Gaskill 		  You're right about that! And I had all those factors, but in the original photo the bare limbs on the trees at the edge of the yard looked strange, so I kept softening them with Picasa 3 to achieve a more "artistic" effect. Just wish I knew how to do that in camera, if there is a way. In this case, I don't think the camera would let me go lower than f/5.6.
