Midway Morning

Midway Morning

----------------
The "Midway,"--docked in San Diego Harbor on a foggy morning in late 2005. Don't know why, but although this is not a "good" photo, I have always loved it. Reworked about 5 times for this post...changed the tones and removed some noise...added some grain.

This reminds me of the irrate sailor who had the gall to want to confiscate my camera for pointing it at the "Nautilus" in Pearl Harbor, circa '70. Geez .. those guys have no sense of humor at all. On a more serious note, the Midway was credited with the first and last air-to-air kills in the Vietnam war. In June '65 she downed the first 3 MiGs credited to U.S. Forces. On 12 January 1973, LT V. T. Kovaleski (pilot) and LT J. A. Wise (RIO) of the VF-161 Chargers downed a North Vietnamese MiG-17 with an AIM-9 Sidewinder launched from their F-4B Phantom II. This was the last air-to-air kill of the Vietnam War. You have really done her justice! This is a beauty!

Michelle, love this photo!! I see this ship EVERY day going to and coming from work. I had no idea you were in San Diego then but then again I had just joined BP in October 2005. It's even better shooting on board, there are a ton of vintage aircraft that have been added in the last couple of years.
