Have to be honest, seems strange to see someone other than Sharon start this thread, but if it had to be anyone taking over for her...I'm glad it's you! This thread has been a help to so many people during the "countdown"! I think I've had one to many...too many times! So, my favorite. I actually have two. One I shot in the summer, although it was for Christmas, and one, well, just because. So everyone, raise your glass, or break open that box of chocolates, and here's hoping that we don't have to wait too long for the big announcements this month!

Hi John, Well, I am officially past the nail biting this month. I worked hard last month to overcome the addiction and I think I have succeeded rather well. The links to the rounds are gone and life goes on and is better for it :o)! Here's a link to my fav for December. Another change I had to make is not uploading photos to the Q&A anymore. Nikki-- You should always be crazy about your own photos, just as you should always be striving to make the next one even better. If there's one thing this monthly thread teaches me it's that, in the end, you have to make photographs that YOU like. If someone else likes them, it's a plus.

Nikki, when I began the thread some months ago it was about which image we thought had the best chance of placing in the contest. Just a fun way to show off our best, but some thought saying which ones they thought were winners was jinxing them so I changed it to "favorite" images and John continued with this theme when he took over. Several have said it seems strange that I didn't start the thread this time, but it seems perfectly normal to me ;)! I'm good about starting something then finding someone else to take over :o)! I never start out that way but others usually see better ways of doing things and I'm always happy to take a back seat. I hate driving and John is a good driver so I don't feel bad :D. I imagine we have a while to wait yet. Good luck everyone!

LOL, jinxes shminxes. Its all up to the judges and not even God knows what they will pick. :) I'm really hoping to get at least a finalist this time, though. I've gone back through, changed my images from jpegs to tiffs, double checked my sharpening so nothing is lost when I upload. Three years is a long time to wait for one to make it to the "finals". If I don't get one, well, I've got 12 entered for this month and I'll re-enter 28 in February. If none make it, ce la vie, I'll stop spending my time readying my images for the contest, blank out my gallery and just look at the images others enter. (While enjoying a glass of fine Irish whiskey and chocolate, of course.)

Off-topic but . . . Does anyone else think that for a site that is as big and technologically sophisticated as BP is, uploading a photo for a discussion (as opposed to the contest) is at best counter-intuitive? I was trying to participate in the before and after discussion and I accessed the BP help and explanation but neither my husband (VERY computer literate) nor I could really figure it out. We finally got my photos in once and my message twice--sort of like what happened to me and so many others in this thread--but it took way too long and I was swearing by the time we did. Were the galleries or other things changed recently and explanations not changed to match? Also, don't you think it would be nice to be able to delete "oops" messages in discussion threads so the whole world--well, the world that is following the thread--doesn't have to wade through them? Nikki, I am pretty sure that some time ago you could just select the ID# of the photo and put it in a Q&A as part of your reply if it was already in your admin area. After deleting one of my POTD's I'm not adding photos to the Q&A anymore. It just gets too confusing for me. I don't blame the setup here for my blunder, but uploading photos to a Q&A again is just more stuff to wade through when I'm trying to organize my gallery. What I wish is we had separate folders in our gallery admin area where we could place pictures we don't want to lose.

Nikki-- You snuck that one in there while I was responding to David! I agree that there needs to be some updating of the message system. I would LOVE to be able to go back and edit posts. I would also like to see more flexibility and ease with adding photographs directly from one's gallery. As it stands now, I figured out that you can reference a photo in your gallery (such as I did on the first post of this thread) as long as you haven't entered a photo in the contest on that particular day. Once you select that you want to add a photo to your message and click "submit," on the ensuing page there is that little box on the right hand side where you can enter your photo's ID. Of course, this assumes two things. First, that you haven't entered a photo in the contest for that day (or else the little box will be gone), and second, that you have previously looked up your photo's ID in your "Edit Photos" section. Now that's a lot of wind to say so little, I realize. But I'm on cold medicine right now, and my fingers have a life of their own. The long and short of it: I agree that there should be more flexibility.

And in response to Nikki, Yes, the system isn't so great and really needs improvements. For a while you couldn't choose to put in a photo by photo ID, but it works (at least for me) again. Also, of course there should be something for you to delete or edit a comment (with something showing up next to it that it was changed), but change takes time. And some times, for some reason, only some people only some times can see certain photos that have been put into a discussion. I don't know why.

Chris, that's what happens to me everytime I've predicted a day here...My post barely shows up, estimating a few more days, and then "boom" they announce the finalists within hours! So I'm not predicting, but I see nothing wrong with "sampling" a variety of chocolates now,...you know, so that I'll know which kind to have available when things get tense! (Of course there is the danger that there may be none left by then... LOL!) Hang in there everyone - as others have noted, some wonderful images here again!

Remember in Braveheart where Mel Gibson screams "FREEEEEEEDOM" at the end of the movie? When I saw the links to the rounds being posted in the Q&A I was screaming "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" and it reverberated through the neighborhood LOL. I knew then they'd be hidden. Same thing happened once before. Whatever caused them to surface the last time you can bet BP won't make that mistake again. I've heard through the grapevine it causes problems for them when people are privy to the rounds. Like someone emailing them wanting to know why the pic of Precious didn't make RU. I wish we could see the rounds afterwards too but maybe they'd have the same problem then as well.

I would like to see (for my own curiosity) the semi-finalists, AFTER the contest is over, but you're right..I'm sure BP would get complaints about entries that didn't get that far... and I can totally understand their not sharing anything but the finalists and winners. That's the way the contest is set up, and we really don't need to be 2nd guessing the preliminary judging (too). So pass the beverages around, and we'll all do the usual waiting and guessing (and hoping)...

I wish they would post the photos in the running. How could you think there would be any more "precious" didn't winn complanits than why didn't my photo make a finialst complaints. You know that there has to be tons of those. Hell at this point I would throw a party for a " in the running photo finish". But alass they didn't ask me darn it!! lol.
