how to soften flash light
I want to soften my flash light because it's so harsh. I tried putting tape, tissue, and even paper over the flash. which of the three is the best way to soften flash light? thanks and any response is appreciated!

Cut a piece of milk jug plastic to fit over the front of the flash. This is an old remedy, not the most aesthetically pleasing, but it works. There is also a website that offers products for pop up flash and off camera flash. http://www.lumiquest.com/softscreen.htm Haven't tried them myself, but it looks like they offer some pretty good products.

I agree with Liza, I did that for awhile until I bought a flash unit that had a softer that would popup and over.

I haven't tried this yet, but just yesterday I noticed that Photoflex is selling a mini softbox to put over a flash. Looked nice as it was a bigger area then anything else I've seen out there. I have a giant version of this same softbox in my studio and have really enjoyed it.

hmm.. but if you put that milk jug plastic piece on your flash.. wouldn't that not allow the light of the flash to reach the subject?
