how to successfully photograph African Americans Hello. I am a new owner of a Nikon Coolpix 8700. I need to learn to successfully photograph African American subjects. I am writing biographies for children, and the pictures will be used for illustrations. Does anyone have any suggestions? Try to keep it low-tech since I am a beginner!

Depending upon the darkness of the skin the light meter will either under compensate or over compensate. if you can get a meter reading direct from the face and don't care about the background being washed out - that may suffice your needs. I'm not that all familiar with the nikon and its capabilities but with photoshop you should be able to adjust your image. Trial and keep track of the photographs and what you did is a good basic method.
