Photography Question

flash reading

when I do a reading, a flash reading with a flash meter, the result is a f/stop, right? then, is this f/stop the apperture in my camera? and if is so, can I combene this f/stop with the sync speed of my camera, this is 1/90 or less, then can I combine the f/stop (reading of the flash light meter) with the shutter speed (sync speed 1/90)? thanks

before taking a reading, set the flash meter to the same film speed and the sync speed. Take the reading for what f/stop, and set the camera to that f/stop.
