Photography Question

Slide film

I've experimented the past week with fuji velvia 50 and love the color saturation. Today, the lab I usually use said that fuji is no longer making velvia 50 and has replaced it with velvia 100. I have read that many of you have set the ISO to 40 from 50 when using fuji velvia. Would the reasoning behind that also apply with fuji velvia 100? And which ISO speed would you set when using fujivelvia 100?

While Fuji has introduced the new 100F version of Velvia, the ISO 50 film has not been discontinued.

I found an explanation why many rate Velvia 50 at ISO 40, see this link. (The intro states ISO 40 and 64 are +/- 1/2 stop exposure compensation from 50, but it's actually just +/- 1/3 stop.) Here is another, from New York Institute of Photography that recommends Velvia 100F be rated at ISO 100, link.

As with all things, your mileage may vary. Test it and determine for yourself if you prefer to rate it at other than the stated ISO.

I am quite sure the Fuji 50 Velvia has not been discontinued. I shoot velvia all the time and purchase it in packs of 20. The two largest New YORK DISTRIBUTORS CAN GET IT FOR YOU GREY MARKET AND USA. There are some folks that shoot Velvia at 40 asa. I shot probably 3500 images last year on velvia and never used anything but50 asa. I do however bracket afair amount.
Great film. Excellent saturation, and they scan quite well into PS7 with a 4000dpi,42 bit scanner. I really like it in natural light and use a tripod!
Good Luck!
Dave

Thank you Jon & Dave for your response to this question. I'll have to talk to the lab and tell them I like ISO 50 better and see if they'll get it for me. I've been using both Fuji Velvia 50 & 100F over the past 2 weeks while on vacation. So far I like the 50 the best. It seems to give better color saturation. The 100F has nice saturation also but not as intense as 50. Here is an image taken with ISO 50. Hopefully the upload will not change the look of the picture.
