Photography Question

Kathy J. Cooper

traveling with SLR's

I'm going to be taking a camping trip on a motorcycle. We will be pulling a trailor. My question is, being that motorcycles vibrate quite a bit, and the trailor is a rough ride...will it be safe to bring my 35mm SLR along? Does it need more protection besides just the case? Or is taking delicate camera equipment on a mortorcyle not a good idea?

The mechanical SLR's (of yester-year), were built like tanks and can handle considerable vibrations. I've taken my old Nikons for long drives on some pretty tough roads in my Jeep, and never had a problem.

I can understand your concern if your camera has delicate electronic circuitry which might be damaged by vibrations.
Personally,...I wouldn't risk it.

I agree with Bob, I have a Nikkormat FTn and EW that have made many parachute jumps and the ftn even has a bullet nick from Viet Nam and they both still work, I rcently bumped my Pentax P3 agaist the side of my Tacoma and had to send it out for repairs. Get you a older camera for your trips or get one of the disposable ones if the trips are rare.
